KIOCL's mining lease period extended

The Centre has decided to extend the mining lease period of KIOCL in the Kudremukh region to 20 years, said Union Minister of Steel Brijkishore Tripathy.Addressing a press meet here in the night, he clarified that the subcommittee on economic affairs in the Union Cabinet had taken this decision. It has been decided to urge the Karnataka government to permit mining in the area that is under mining for 20 years. The Department of Environment and Forests has earlier submitted an affidavit before the Supreme Court for extending the mining lease period for five years based on a report by the Karnataka government. The Department has now submitted a revised affidavit to allow the extension of the mining lease period for 20 years.
